Campbell was surrendered by his family after 7 years and came to the sanctuary with a large mass hanging from his abdomen. We guess he was around 9 or 10, overweight by at least 20 pounds and has pretty advanced arthritis in his rear hip joints and also his front legs. We took him in, had the tumor removed and got him from 123 pounds down to 98. He is currently on pain management for his arthritis which has been flaring up in his front left leg. He tolerates the other dogs but prefers to sleep alone. He does love attention from anyone who will give it to him and his sad eye look usually draws everyone in. He uses his ears to express emotion and we love talking to him and watching those ears move! He likes to come next to my bed in the middle of the night and get some pets before he moves to another bed!

Susie is full of energy and craves your attention. She is happiest when she is right next to you on the couch or in bed sleeping. She loves people and is getting used to sharing her space with the other dogs. However, she is learning to give you space while she waits for your pets! Susie was found on the streets and it was obvious she had been breed many times. We guess her to be about 9 or 10 when she came to us and was not in bad health so it looked like she was either dumped or abandoned. After spending a couple of weeks at the shelter she was on the euthanasia list and we were asked if we could take her. She had to be isolated because of kennel cough and then It took her a while to transition into the group! She loves praise and will come running and jumping to you after she goes potty outside! She is good friends with Scooter and I think helps him with his anxiety.

Samson, at 12 years old, came from an abuse situation, was removed from the home and found himself at the shelter. At some time his back leg was broken and never fixed so he limps on that leg. or holds it up when he is standing still. It does not seem to cause him pain so after consulting with the vet we decided it was best to leave it as is. He had a severe ear infection that we are continuing to manage. His left eye was damaged and is non-functioning, he is missing the majority of his teeth, he has a permanent head tilt and he is deaf. Despite all of this he is a happy boy and has taken to barking at and running after cars at the front fence. Prior to Benny's passing Samson had started to join him barking at and chasing cars. He has now taken over for Benny and spends his time at the front of the yard. I can just see Benny standing beside him as he guards the yard! He likes to walk across the top of the bed to get close to my head at night, and then he'll walk all over the rest of the dogs until he finds his perfect resting spot. Thank goodness the other dogs are patient with him!

Peanut came to the Sanctuary after his owner was incarcerated and he ended up at the shelter. He is a 12 year old short, stocky beagle with many lumps and a big puffy butt. He's got a quirly personality, he can hear you but pretends he doesn't and is always the one I have to go find when it's time to go outside, come back in or go to bed! Because he is so low to the ground he needs help getting on the couch but learned how to get on the bed very quickly! He also loves to nap curled up with his sanctuary brothers and sisters unless I'm there to cuddle next to. He does have some issues with incontinence so he is diapered, otherwise he's pretty healthy and has fit in easily at the sanctuary. He loves Roscoe so I let them hang out together in the yard or back in Roscoe's area.

Grace was given up by her owners due to a family tragedy which left her at home for long periods of time. She struggled with incontinence so this made things more difficult. At 14 we felt she still had some life left in her and she joined the sanctuary. She does have a growth under her chin that we suspect is cancer and is losing some muscle mass but she is otherwise healthy. Grace is loving her sanctuary brothers and sisters and can be found napping with one of them throughout the day. If I'm sitting with the dogs she will be cuddled up right next to me and at night she will always make her way right next to me, pushing her body against me. She is the last one to come in from the yard because she likes to explore the whole yard, unless it's cold or rainy when she is quick to do her business and run inside. She is such a sweet and happy girl, tail constantly wagging, and a favorite at the vet.

Oscar is 13 years old and was found as a stray. He has the cutest underbite and is one happy boy, in spite of his past life. All of his teeth are flat almost to the gums and he was infested with fleas. He is very high anxiety and wants to be near his person or have an eye on them or he panics! He will bark, chew on the nearest wall, ledge, furniture or door or he will lick and drool on anything that is near until he sees you and feels safe. He can be crated but that also makes him very anxious so he goes out with with me when I take Roscoe out to the yard and comes in the van with Roscoe and I to run errands. He loves the rocks and will nap on them in the sun instead of the grass. He is also likes to hang out in one of the plants, rolling around under and inside! He came with his own bed and that is where he sleeps every night. We share here so when another dog is in his bed he will just wait patiently by until they move so he can jump in! He is such a sweet and affectionate boy!

Roger was found as a stray and was in pretty rough shape. He had a ruptured tumor, that turned out to be cancer, along with several hematomas. He prefers to be on his own pillow and not share and doesn't really care about or interact with the other dogs. He is a bit of a whiner when he feels uncomfortable and definitely a barker! He barks at the deer and anyone walking by the sanctuary, although always from afar. He is gently and likes attention. He is a gentle soul and a little meek. He sits and lays down with his legs behind him and has the cutest floppy ears, especially when he's running back to come inside. He likes to explore the whole yard but does not linger and comes in as soon as he's done. He is a sweet boy and I an so happy he found us!

Hannah is a shy and hesitant girl who appears to have been through a lot in her life. She is warming up but still keeps her distance. She loves meal time and will follow me around while I'm getting everything ready and she'll lick my hand and run around with excitement! She comes quickly if I call her and will go in and out of the door without hesitation most of the time. She has warmed up to the other dogs and will sleep in one of the beds in the living room during the day. At night she sleeps at the foot of the bed on the ottoman and will occasonally get on the cot or one of the chairs. I find her jumping on the couch and playing around when she thinks I'm not looking! She has such a playful personality! She will come up to me when I'm in bed or on the couch and stand very still for pets. I know she feels safe now and with the probability of leukemia, she is on palliative care for as long as she is here at the sanctuary.

Molly is 14 and came to the sanctuary when her owner had to move out of her home and could not take Molly with her. She is very spunky and very mischievous and I find her exploring and sniffing around all the time! She loves to explore the yard outside and gets lots of exercise when the weather is nice. She loves to curl up in a small bed right at the foot my bed and will often snuggle next to Peanut or Roger at night. She has found her voice and will bark at me while I'm feeding everyone until it is her turn! Molly is a sweet little girl and live here at the Sanctuary until it is her time, which I imagine will be many years from now!!

Teddy is an 11 year old boy who was found as a stray in 2016 and returned to his owner. Then in January of 2026 he was found again, only 40 pounds (should be 55 pounds or more), severe ear infection, skin issues and high heart worm positive. He had no interest and was scheduled to be euthanized when we brought him to the sanctuary. He is settling in the quarantine area until his vet visit and is the perfect little boy. He is relaxing, sleeping a lot and enjoying his outdoor potty time. It will take a couple of weeks and we will start the integration process so he can be with the rest of our residents!

Hank, at 10 years old, was found as a stray at only 33 pounds, almost half of what he should be. He snapped at one of the shelter workers and also at me when I tried to get him into the van. He resource guarded his food and would snap at me if I even touched his tail as I was leaving his area. We have been taking it very, very slow, building trust, getting some weight on him and making sure he feels safe. Once he gains enough weight he will be neutered and get heart wormed staged so we can determine the appropriate heart worm treatment. Until then, he gets 4 meals a day, is taken on regular walks throughout the day and I can now pet him, even on his head, and after I put his food down. His tail is always wagging when I come to his area and he is coming along nicely!

Gus was found wondering the streets when a good samaritan picked him up. He checked for a microchip and called the registered owner who said they did not know him. With further research it appears the chip company had been called multiple times with no success in finding an owner. So, at 14 years and 3 months he is now safe at the sanctuary! He is very affectionate and loves to nap with is head on my lap. He gets along well with the other dogs, enjoys exploring the yard and loves his treats and meal time! He has arthritis in his back legs and hips and in his spine. He gets weak if he is too active and will have a hard time standing on his back legs by the end of the day. He is sweet and lovable and his eyes are on me constantly! He was integrated in with all the dogs after about a week and is now happily enjoying his retirement at his final home!
